  17. Description of Working Group:

  19. This Working Group is looking at issues involved in
  20. connection-oriented (or stream- or flow-oriented) internet level
  21. protocols.  The long-term intent is to identify the issues involved,
  22. to understand them, to identify algorithms that address them, and to
  23. produce a specification for a protocol that incorporates what the
  24. Working Group has learned.  To achieve this goal, the Group is
  25. defining a two year collaborative research effort based on a common
  26. hardware and software base.  This will include implementing different
  27. algorithms that address the issues involved and performing experiments
  28. to compare them.  On a shorter time-line, ST is a stream-oriented
  29. protocol that is currently in use in the Internet.  A short-term goal
  30. of this Working Group is to define a new specification for ST, called
  31. ST-2, inviting participation by any interested people.  MCHIP and the
  32. Flow Protocol have also been discussed because they include relevant
  33. ideas.
